Moving away from the hazy bedroom-pop textures of her early work, Pylon delivers a much tougher, more intense sound that threads the needle between sweet-but-melancholic pop rock and raw alternative energy. The album continually deploys an impressive sweet-to-sour pivot. Tender pianos and peppy horns make way for brawny, sludgy riffs, tapped harmonics, and gusts of feedback, seamlessly channeling classic grunge, midwest emo, and '90s radio rock.
